IF THE SPIRIT MOVES YOU! THE BOOK OF MORMON ~ MORE INFO!

“And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, … and they teach all men that they should do good.” 2 Nephi 33:10

May 30, 2013
Hola Everyone! Welcome to my son Elder Matthew Hill's blog! Thank you for supporting him and reading his letters!
I have become increasingly aware the past few months of the world-wide attention this blog has gotten. Many stumble upon it looking for something else. I get several comments weekly, anything from thanking me for the information  to complete fascination at the contents of letters they stumble upon. I have decide to add this page in the faith that this blog page can provide more information for the many that seem daily to become fascinated with Matthew's Blog and the contents therein.
If this is "you", and you have some warm fuzzy feelings reading the posts here, and are interested in learning more about the things he speaks of, I invite you to visit the links I provide below. You should be able to get the content in any language.
I invite you to read the content of the Book below. Ponder the things you read. Listen to your spirit. There is a PROMISE in this Book that the TRUTH will be revealed to you. Pray to your God, our Heavenly Father, with real intent to know if these things you read are true, and ask Him with FAITH in Jesus Christ, our Lord, if these things you read are true. The Holy Ghost/Spirit will manifest to you by that same warmth, that this is indeed a Testament of Jesus Christ and is His restored Gospel.
"And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. " (Moroni 10:4)

“Its origin is miraculous; when the story of that origin is first told to one unfamiliar with it, it is almost unbelievable. But the book is here to be felt and handled and read. No one can dispute its presence..." (L. Tom Perry)

(Excerpts from a talk by President Thomas S. Monsen about these promises & blessings , titled, "Precious Promises of the Book of Mormon") From its pages comes the promise of “never-ending happiness” to “those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual” (Mosiah 2:41).
From its pages comes the promise of “incomprehensible joy” to those who become “instrument[s] in the hands of God” in rescuing His precious sons and daughters (Alma 28:829:9).
From its pages comes the promise that scattered Israel will be gathered—a work in which we are engaged through our great worldwide missionary efforts (see 3 Nephi 1621–22).
From its pages comes the promise that as we pray unto the Father in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, our families will be blessed (see3 Nephi 18:21).
From a study of its pages comes the fulfillment of the prophetic promise that “there will come into your lives and into your homes an added measure of the Spirit of the Lord, a strengthened resolution to walk in obedience to His commandments, and a stronger testimony of the living reality of the Son of God.”1
And from the pages of the Book of Mormon comes Moroni’s promise that through prayer, real intent, and faith in Christ, we may know the truth of these promises “by the power of the Holy Ghost” (see Moroni 10:4–5).
With other latter-day prophets, I testify of the truthfulness of this “most correct of any book on earth,”2 even the Book of Mormon, another testament of Jesus Christ. Its message spans the earth and brings its readers to a knowledge of the truth. It is my testimony that the Book of Mormon changes lives. May each of us read it and reread it. And may we joyfully share our testimonies of its precious promises with all of God’s children.
The Book of Mormon is published in 107 languages, and many of them are available in multiple formats online.

History
In March 1830, 5,000 copies of the Book of Mormon were printed in the E. B. Grandin print shop in PalmyraNew York. From that humble beginning, today the Church prints over 3 million copies a year on large web presses. By the end of this year, nearly 150 million copies will have been distributed. Truly, this important witness of Jesus Christ is beginning to cover the earth.

It is also interesting to note the increasingly rapid pace of translation work. In its first 100 year history (1830-1930), the Book of Mormon was translated into 16 languages. In the next 68 years (1931-1999), all or part of the Book of Mormon was translated into another 80 languages. Today, all or part of the Book of Mormon has been translated into 107 languages. 82 are translations of the full book and 25 are translations of Selections from The Book of Mormon, which contains the doctrinal teachings amounting to approximately one third of the full book.

Bautismo!

ELDER CORBIN LARSEN, MARCO SERGIO GUZMAN GARCIA Y ELDER MATT HILL
On Thursday we had the baptism of Marco Sergio. His wife was baptized a few weeks ago- he had to wait because he drank coffee once- but they are investigators of Elder Larsen and Elder Dominguez. It was cool because they both have the desire to go to the temple with one of their daughters who is also a member.

I got an email from Lorena and Raul a few weeks back and they told me that they were preparing to go to the temple soon. I´m just waiting for the call so that I know when their sealing session will be. I´ll keep you posted.

Raul and Carina went to church yesterday and enjoyed it. She´s still feeling a little insecure about the whole baptism covenant thing but all is well. She enjoys the church and loves everything but just doesn´t feel ready to make the promise. She still wants to learn more. Please pray for her that she´ll find her answer and feel ready!

Well, that´s about it for this week! It´s been raining pretty much every afternoon so that´s a big change from the dry climate of Queretaro. Elder Larsen and I are finding new members that we don´t know and really showing them that we´re not JUST here to baptized new people, but also help all the members.

I also feel like I should ask for a little extra prayer help for a certain family here. Christian and Elizabeth are a less active family, sealed in the temple, but are thinking about getting divorced. Please pray for them that they can realize what is God´s plan for them and that they can work through their problems.

Thanks so much! Love you all!

Elder Hill

Yes, Jardines is the new ward and the church is on that address. I would tell you where we live but we are looking for a new house because we live right in front of a drug dealer and it would be super easy to break into our house if someone really wanted to do. I`ll keep you posted.

Anyway, I haven´t been able to take pictures here because my area is pretty ghetto and I don´t want my camera stolen. I´ll see if I can find more opportunities this week to take pictures now that I know the better parts of my area.

The Work Moves On!

ELDER CORBIN LARSEN & ELDER MATTHEW HILL

The work moves on! This week we went looking for a name that we don`t even know where we got it from and we found a less active brother who had been praying for help to know how to get back to the church. We went looking for his brother but found him. We honestly haven`t found out from where we got the name and address, but we found him and his wife (who isn`t a member) and they were pretty much just waiting for us to show up and invite them to go to church and for her to be baptized. They are Raul and Karina. Raul has a testimony but just hasn`t been going to church for some reason and Karina is really interested in the fact that families can be together forever. They pretty much made the promise right there that she would get baptized because she loves the church and go to the temple some day. It has been a neat experience to be an instrument in God`s hands to answer the prayers of one of His children. Heavenly Father knows each one of us and He answers our prayers-- in His own time and way-- but he does answer them.

Other than that, we have just been working with the ward to get to know them better and have a better relationship between missionaries and members. We`ve been visiting the members who the missionaries don`t normally visit because it`s 'too far' or 'too hard' to find them. We have already received 5 referrals this week by doing that. By the sweat of your brow will you earn the daily bread. It hasn`t been easy to do what is right, but it is worth it.

Other than that, not much happened this week. I have to go because we had a few hiccups with our schedule today but I`ll write more next week!

Love you all!

Elder Matt Hill

Saying Goodbye's, Transfers to Jardines, Cuautitlan Izcalli & Made District Leader on Mother's Day!

FLOR Y FAMILIA FEEDING THE ELDERS (HILL & OROZCO ON FRI-MX MOTHER'S DAY)

JIMENEZ/GIL FAMILIA Y ELDER MATT HILL on Sunday Mother's Day

(Ma) I didn't even know you were on! So how is it so far?
(EH) It´s definitely different and I´m not so sure I´m going to like it was much but the attitude is what makes it count. It´s a different type of area, people, culture, house conditions, etc. I feel a little empty right now after leaving Queretaro because it was a good ward and area but there are good people here, too, waiting to hear the gospel. (He wasn’t happy about going to Querétaro either and LOVED it!)
(Ma) You will acclimate and love it! Everyone is uncomfortable with change. I love u. U r doing great things son. You are a wonderful young man. Companion? Fotos?
(EH) He´s a good kid so far. We´ll see what happens. Send some in a second.

Today I was transferred to a ward called Jardines in Cuautitlan Izcalli. It´s totally different from Querétaro where I was and I´m still getting used to everything after being out of Mexico State for so long. It´s a different form of living and people and just everything is different, but we can´t progress in life without a little change and trials.

ELDER MATT HILL, DANIEL Y DIANA...SAYING GOODBYE
Yesterday I had to say goodbye to everyone I could in the ward and it was honestly tough. It was the first ward that I´ve had so far that I really didn´t want to leave. Everyone said that the first area is the hardest to say goodbye to but for me it was this one for me. There are a lot of great people here that I know I waiting to hear the Gospel. Also, if anyone has any ideas for district meetings, all suggestions are welcome! I wasn´t looking forward to the assignment but when life gives you lemons, make lemonade! ;)

My new companion is Corbin Larsen from Payson, UT. I´m still getting to know him so I¨ll let you know what´s going on next week. Elder Corbin Larsen

THE 2 RED-HEADS TOGETHER AGAIN! ELDER MATT HILL Y HERMANA CALL! YIPPEE!!
Hermana Call, (Mission President's wife) sent me an email yesterday saying that I wasn´t going to say goodbye to her yet and that I am going to stay with them. So, I have been assigned to the Mexico City North Mission... again! So, looks like in the next 8 months I´ll be in Mexico or Hidalgo, but no more Queretaro! So many missionaries who I thought I´d see again in the mission but looks like not.
ELDER HILL, MOSIAH HERNANDEZ, ELDER OROZCO
Good to talk to the Family yesterday, (Mother's Day). Happy Mother´s day to all whom it applies! Keep up the good work!

Well, that´s all that has been going on lately. I´ll write next week.

Loves,

Fast and Testimony Meeting ~ Sesión de Ayuno y Testimonio ~ Reunión de ayuno y testimonio

Yesterday was testimony meeting and a lot of people went up front to bear their testimony and everyone did a good job. Of course, there were the usual members who cry, tell their life story, thank everyone in the world for everything, the kids who spit on the microphone, and the kids who just shout so that the world can hear them. It was a good fast and testimony meeting. What made it better was that Flor and her youngest daughter Larisa went up to share their testimonies and Spirit was felt. Later on there were members who told us that they felt the Spirit when those two stood up and spoke. It´s because they have sincerely prayed and really felt an answer from the Holy Ghost that this is true. They don´t just say it to say it and that´s what I love about their testimonies.

Also, I got to confirm Yatziri yesterday. I remember that we went up on the stand and we just put our hands on her head. I realized when we were ready that I didn´t even think about how the prayer went word for word and I thought for a second, "What do I do?" but then I just felt calm and opened my mouth and the words flowed out. During the blessing I felt that what I was saying from the Holy Ghost and not from my own mouth. Later, her family said that they felt the Spirit when Yatziri was being confirmed. It was a neat experience to be involved in that. I haven´t confirmed anyone in quite a while.

Patty went to church yesterday and stayed for Gospel Principles class, but she had to leave early. She just said that she had lots of questions but what will help a lot is that she was tearing up during the class which means to say that she probably felt the Spirit testify to her that it was true. I´m so grateful that the Spirit convinces people because I could never convince a person and have that convincement(?) last as long as an answer from the Holy Ghost.

Next week we have transfers and Mother´s Day so it will be a good experience to see y'all again and hear your squeaky voices! I still don´t know if it will be on Friday (Mother´s Day here) or on Sunday. I´ll let you know in a short little bit what will happen.

Have a great week!

Love,

Elder Hill

Emails back and forth on Monday
llamada telefónica!!!! YIPPEE!! LOL, our testimony meeting was in Tongan!
Looking forward to my phone call! Will not stand so close to your MAC this time!

Te amo mi hijo de oro, (I love you, my son of gold)

Mamá

Worried about Des and this move. Slipping into depression…
Fading…not much to say, it almost consumes all thoughts, worrying about it.
(EH) Which Des and which move? Gotta tell me directly because I don´t understand., ttyl
My daughter/your sister. If we HAVE to move. I start crying every time I think of it, which is often. She's gonna be ok. Worried about not going to MPJH, not really rentals there.
Read D & C 100, the whole thing…….Was believing…I know it will…just really afraid…Ya, I know that one too. I have faith it will all work out.  It’s the MINE not Thine problem. Pretty crushed as you can imagine….
(EH) Quit worrying because worrying never got a person further in life! That´s what I was always told by a friend. Just let life flow and do what you can. If you want to be good with the world, be good with God. That´s something that I realized in my studies this week when I was trying to study for a certain family. I´m not saying that you´re not good with God, it´s just something I realized yet again this week. (re: 542)

Obviously I guess I am still being perfected.
(EH) We´ll skype on Sunday at 3pm your time, 4 my time. You´re not in church are you? I don´t remember but all is well. Love you. Have a good week!

Me. Son of Gold, I mean God. :)

Um yes, I will leave right after sacrament.
Te amo, mi hijo de Padre Celestial!

Repentance is to Change Everything...Thoughts, Desires, Actions...a Real & Possible Process

Elder Hill, Yatziri and Elder Orozco
Yatziri was baptized yesterday after church and it was a great experience. She felt really scared (of the water) before but she was really happy after. She started crying when everyone got up to congratulate her after the service and she felt the power of the Atonement.

This week we had Zone conference and we talked a lot about repentance and how, as missionaries, we need to teach people better the doctrine of repentance. I have learned a lot this week as I have been studying this topic. I´ve learned that obedience is what gives us the exaltation in the world to come. God is no respecter of persons nor can he look upon sin in the least degree as acceptable. There are a few scriptures that I like to use when teaching this topic.

Yatziri y familia
-Mosiah 4:30 because our thoughts, words, actions all act for or against us.
-Mosiah 2:23-24 because we are all debtors of the Lord for all that He has done for us.
-Mosiah 4:1-3; 5:2 because they repented, felt the Spirit, and were changed so that they had no more desire to do evil.
-James 4:17 because we all know what is right and wrong and we sin when we choose not the right thing.

Repentance is to change anything- our thoughts, desires, actions, beliefs, traditions, etc- that is not in harmony with God´s will and put it inline with His will. Brigham Young said, "Virtue is knowing the will of God and doing it." Let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly.

I know that repentance is a real and possible process. It is a requirement to salvation and exaltation.

Also, last week we were walking along a street and some guys from the other side threw bottles at us and they shattered against the wall, spraying us with glass. I thought of Samuel the Lamanite in Helaman 16:2, but changing stones and arrows to bottles. Life as a missionary takes on different views. :)

Have a great week!

Love,

Elder Hill

Confirmations and Dentist y Confirmaciones y Dentales

Hey, I`m on but only for a few minutes. Sorry. We went to the dentist and took longer than we expected, we just barely got done. She started a whitening session and is going to find me some new gel for my trays. We`ll see how it goes. (I sent him a whole thing of gel…hmmm, what’s he eating?)

Looks like a good dance pic. (Josh's senior prom pix) Was that Prom already? How time flies.

Yesterday, Flor and her daughters Aurora and Laurisa were confirmed members of the Church. It would have been great to be involved but while we went out of the meeting for an investigator, we missed seeing the actual ordinance but I know that they will feel the difference in their lives with the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Pati is a referral from a recent convert in another ward and she is one of those people who has been looking for the truth for a long time but hasn`t found it. She is divorced and her church has pretty much shunned her for that so she just stopped going. She went to church yesterday and loved it. My companion got to talk to her before she escaped out the door and she said that she hopes to keep coming because she felt the peace in her heart.

I can`t remember if I wrote this in another letter but about two weeks ago I finished the Libro de Mormón and I have been reviewing all that I have read, studied, and marked in the last 15 months. I have felt over and over again of the power THAT book has. It was written and translated by prophets of God. The Book along with the Bible are the route guides to our lives. I find so much doctrine and things in those books that I love. Study and read from the Scriptures so that you have the daily antidote against the fiery darts of the devil.

Keep you chins up high because in the eternal perspective of things, ALL IS WELL.

Loves,

Elder Hill

Por Fin!! (Finally!) What A Week, Bautismo, Trial After Trial, Lean On The Lord....

Elder Matt Hill, Elder Orozoco, Flor, Alora & Larisa at bautismo, (not sure who is who!)

Hola!
What a week! Flor, Aurora, and Larisa were FINALLY baptized! It`s been something like two months since we began teaching them and we`ve had trial after trial after trial to get them baptized but the work has paid off. They will be confirmed next week and will be official members of the one and only true Church. It was funny because we`ve been joking this week of all that has happened to prevent them from being baptized and then Aurora was baptized 5 times because her dress kept popping up. Finally.

Por Fin!! (Finally...a baptism!) Elder Matt Hill, Elder Orozoco, Flor, Alora & Larisa at bautismo!
This week we went over to a member’s house to take a picture with an older hermana who is only in town for a little bit but wanted a picture with us. We got there and she said, "My grand-daughter is here should I go get her?" and without us even responding she went upstairs to get her grand-daughter. She`s our age, name is Yatziri, and is one of those people who has been prepared to hear the Gospel. So far we`ve taught her three times and in every lesson she has cried because she felt the Spirit. She accepted her baptismal date for April 28th without any problem. She didn`t know that her mom is actually a member of the Church, but inactive for years. She remembers that she went to a church where they taught her to not believe in idols and all that, but she didn`t remember which one it was. Her grandma told her the other day that her mom had been baptized as well. She has a friend who has invited her to another church and she has gone twice but she told us on the first day that after feeling the Spirit she felt `located` or comfortable here. She went to church and the baptism yesterday and loved it all.

Yesterday I woke up at 7:10a (Church starts at 8 and normally we get up at 6 on Sundays) and I told Orozco that the phone`s alarm didn`t go off. We hurried up and got to church a little late. Later, Orozco told me that the alarm did go off but that I hit snooze and rolled back over. (LOL, he used to do that and sleep through 3 LOUD alarms and 2 alarm clocks, but then get up bright and early 99% of the time!) I don`t remember ANYTHING that happened before I woke up. It must have been one of those nights that I was just super tired. Ooops.

Well, that`s about all that has been going on. We`re working on finding new people to teach but it`s been a little tough. Today I listened to President Eyring`s talk again from Saturday morning`s session and I felt yet again the power that comes from his testimony. All of the Prophets and Apostles are chosen by Christ Himself and He guides this church because it is His. He talks to President face to face just as he did with Moses on Mount Sinai. The Church is true. No doubt about it. I hope everyone has a great week. Reach out to someone who needs the Gospel and make their day, and maybe even their life. (Mamá- man I LOVE this kid, his testimony, dedication & spirit!)

Loves,

Elder Hill

P.S. Mamá-Just keep doing what you know you need to do and that will be enough. If we are being obedient and things still don`t work out how we want them to, then we have to trust in the Lord that he is doing what is best to shape and form us. D&C 82:10 and D&C 68:6. I hope that you don`t have to move, but when I left we knew that it was a possibility. We`ll see what happens in the coming months.

Love you. Lean on the Lord. "When life`s troubles come upon you and you find yourself to weak to stand, kneel." It will all be okay in the end, speaking of an eternal perspective.

Ma: Des got a pretty high score on math, recommended for honors math at MPJH!
EH: That`s great. Tell her congrats for me.
Gotta go now. Have a great week. Love you.

La Conferencia General ~ General Conference #183

Hola!
Just as Daniel prophesied so many years ago the Church continues to roll and fill the entire earth. Every nation, tribe, clime, tongue, etc, is being filled with the message of the Restoration of the truth. It reminds me of the standard of truth that Joseph Smith published in the newspaper. Nothing can destroy the work of God.

I loved conference this weekend because they talked so much more about missionary work and the family. I feel like they go hand in hand. Something that was said was that missionary preparation comes from the example of the father. There is a family from my ward here that has a lot of kids, already grown up. Each one of them who could serve a mission, did. The father said as Joshua of old, "As for me and my house we will serve God....In this family, we serve missions." With the recent changes in age and requirements, missionary work may now become a family tradition. How great is the Lord!

In my studies this week I was studying about the Spirit World and what will happen there. One thing that reaffirmed my testimony of how important this work is was that if someone has the opportunity to hear the Gospel here in this life and rejects it, they will NEVER be able to reach the celestial glory. The highest kingdom that they can get to is the Terrestrial. A lot of people say, "They´re a hard person to convert, too bad they don´t accept this message. Good thing they´ll have a chance in the spirit world." What I learned is this: That thought it is apostasy and that we need to do all that we can to help people-- more our family and friends-- accept this message so that they can truly be saved and receive salvation. It motivates me that much more to be able to work hard and find people who are ready. I know that we can do it. D&C 84:85- Have the faith that when you open your mouth that it will be filled with the words needed, and in that order. First faith to open then it becomes filled. Ye receive no miracle until AFTER the trial of your faith.

This week we found an older lady who let us in to teach her. We taught a brief version of the Restoration and invited her to ask God if it was true. She asked, "right now?" and we said yes, thinking that ´right now´meant when we leave. But right there she asked the question, "God, is true what these boys have taught me?" We just waited there not knowing what to do but not having the words to say anything. After a long pause she told us that she thought that it was true because she felt something in her chest (aka- burning in the bosom). We hadn´t even explained to her how she was going to receive her answer and she already had it. We have an appointment with her today so we´ll see how it goes. We  haven´t seen Jovita either so we don´t know how she´s doing. Flor. Aurora, and Larisa will be getting baptized next Saturday so I hope to be able to send pics of a baptism next week!

President Eyring´s testimony on Saturday morning was THE HIGHLIGHT to conference. He knows that Christ lives just as Joseph Smith did in the first vision. What does that mean? That´s exactly what it means. Christ lives and he speaks to his prophets face to face just as he did in olden days. Amos 3:7.

Love you all. Have a fabulous week! Study the words of the living prophets. It is God´s will for us in the next 6 months.

Elder Hill

We showed up just in time for cake and Orozco sure enjoyed it!

Emails back and forth Monday:
EH~Hey,

So we had a few changes this week. We now have a little bit more time to write on Mondays AND we can write friends and whoever, if and when we have time.

(re listening to conference on ipod or Priesthood Session on Mac) You have to download all of the conference track on itunes and put it on the ipod to be able to listen to conference.

I didn´t get the package last week because the zone leaders didn’t bring packages from the offices to the zone because we have zone conference in two weeks and President Call will bring it then.

On my facebook I´m friends with a John Taylor who is a firefighter. He served in this mission way back in the day and was here in Queretaro. Can you ask him if he has anyone that he would like me to say hello to or at least send a little not with the missionaries to say hello, please.

Hope you enjoyed conference. ttyl.

Ma~It is POURING RAIN! I think u will love your new rain jacket!
EH~It´s super hot here.... not sure I´ll need it if I stay in this mission, but for sure if I go to Hidalgo or Mexico.
Love you. gotta go. I´ll get the package next Wednesday I hope.
Ma~ Awesome. It's really lite, vented...took that into account when I got it. Rainy season is may to Oct. Have a great week, love u. Pray for all of us! Te amo!
